POLICE officers in Labasa had a familiarisation workshop with the new community policing brand of the Fiji Police Force theme 'Everyone Everywhere get together to show you care for Fiji'.
North divisional police commander acting SSP Fulori Rainibogi said the policing brand was locally known as the Duavata model.
Acting SSP Rainibogi said the model was based on old methods of community policing previously known as virikawakawa or bridging the gap.
"Like other community policing models in the past, the new model also stresses the importance of the policing role in ensuring that the relationship between the community and police are intact and spearheaded towards building a better nation," she said.
"The local brand of duavata stresses the importance of taking a unified approach in the fight against crime to make a better Fiji.
"The workshop is part of the organisation's efforts to familiarise personnel with the role they will play in taking the new concept to the grassroots level."
Acting SSP Rainibogi said the community and police partnership was very important for the improvement of the country and ensuring that crime free communities were achieved.
"Our community policing officers who were part of the workshop will take the Duavata model down to the grassroots people so that they are aware of their roles in the organisation's effort to reduce crime to a zero level," she said.
