THE Fiji National Rugby League have taken another step to their Rugby League World Cup preparation.
FNRL now receives sports supplements from former Italy international Apenisa Vodo to boost their preparation. Fiji Bati rugby league head coach earlier stated that he needed players to bulk up.
Vodo told Times Sport that he had supplied FNRL with sports nutrition to help the Fiji Bati players prepare for the international event.
"Yes I am now supplying FNRL with the supplements, they are using it while at training and I think they need it to prepare for the RLWC," Vodo said.
FNRL development officer Sale Tubuna confirmed that the local players were using the supplements during training.
Vodo supplied the supplements to the winning Sukuna Bowl Police team last year. Other rugby teams like defending Deans U18 champions Queen Victoria School, Northland, Vatukoula and Lautoka used the supplements.
QVS won the Deans trophy twice and Vatukoula were promoted to the major division while using the supplements.
Vodo said Coach Rick Stone wanted the local players to put on weight but maintain their speed at the same time.
"I'm supplying them the bulk protein and pre-work out protein which is used before weight sessions.
"This will help the players grow bulky but maintain their speed because this is what the coach Stone wants.
"They definitely needed this supplement because rugby league is very physical," he added.
