HEAVY rain in the capital city did not dampen the spirits of a hundred avid golfers who turned up to compete in the fifth round of the Summer Cup last Saturday.
While many sports around Suva had to be called off mid-way in the competition, the BSP Life-sponsored tournament continued at the Fiji Golf Club (FGC) at Vatuwaqa's golf course.
DJ Park won the first prize in the men's A grade with a score of 68 nett while Haroon Ali had to settle for second spot on 69 nett.
Gurd Mar with a score of 71 nett won the third prize on countback from three others golfers.
FGC spokesperson Kevin Maitava said the Men's B grade was won by a former national sevens star, Viliame Railuni, who escaped with a very impressive 64 nett before the downpour.
"Joe Mataika, although had to struggle in the late morning rain and managed a good 68 nett to collect second prize in the grade," he said.
"Dennis Fong had to overcome three others to collect the third prize on countback."
Abdul Hafiz, who scored 68 nett collected first prize in the men's C grade, while Arvindra Kumar, 69 nett and Mahmood Rahman, 70, nett collected second and third prizes in the grade.
