THE Westfield Under-18 team which comprises of players from the Ratu Navula Secondary School is using the local 7s tournaments to groom its team for the Deans trophy competition.
Westfield successfully retained the U18 grade during the Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s at Prince Charles Park in Nadi yesterday. The side thrashed Unity Brothers 29-0 in the final.
Captain Rupeni Vakasilimi and winger Viliame Toutou starred for the Westfield team during the tournament.
Westfield coach Josaia Rokomarawa said they used the local 7s tournaments to maintain their fitness level.
He said they were happy to retain their title.
"This team is made up of school students who attend Ratu Navula Secondary School," Rokomarawa said.
"We are just building up for the secondary schools Deans competition. Participating in the tournaments is one way to maintain our fitness."
"The boys enjoyed the tournament. We are happy to make it back-to-back victories and that is for us and the senior team."
"Our aim is to get the student to be exposed at high level competition."
