THE Water Authority of Fiji has confirmed that a damaged pipe had caused the intermittent water supply to areas along Saweni and Vuda Back Rd last week.

Responding to queries from this newspaper, WAF communications team leader, Fulori Turaga said a team from the authority went to Vuda Back Rd and spoke with a resident who made the initial complaint on their water supply.

"We can confirm that this area falls within the Lautoka 12-hours supply zone.

"They were frustrated because they didn't get supply last weekend and no water trucks attended to their complaints," said Ms Fulori.

Ms Fulori was responding to complaints lodged by several residents living along the Vuda Back Rd against the authority for not carting water to the area.

Monita Nair had approached this newspaper with their concerns.

"I've made several calls to the Water Authority of Fiji office in Lautoka and they told us because of the heavy rain last week one of their pipes got washed away.

"They told us that they would send a water truck but it never came," said Ms Nair.

Ms Fulori said they had explained to the residents what had caused the disruptions and why it took so long to restore supply.

"It was due to the 250 millimetre broken water main.

"For the full restoration of supply on a 24/7 basis, we have an action plan in place and a special task team has now commenced work to improve supply to this intermittent supply area," she said.
