MORE heavy rain is expected to be experienced in parts of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu throughout today and tomorrow.
Acting director of Meteorology Aminiasi Tuidraki confirmed this yesterday afternoon.
"A weak trough of low pressure over the group and with the moist northeasterly air flow has enhanced the local afternoon activities of showers and thunderstorms," he said.
"This afternoon's (yesterday) activities will continue tomorrow (today) and Monday."
Mr Tuidraki said there was a tropical depression over the far west of Fiji near Vanuatu.
"It is moving southeast towards the southwest of Fiji and this will bring in more rain on Wednesday to the Fiji Group as its associated trough will be coming over and it might only clear on Friday," he said.
Heavy rainfall was experienced in Suva and the surrounding areas from about 1pm yesterday and was continuing when this edition went to press last night.
Considering that the soil has been saturated because of rainfall being experienced in parts of the country in recent weeks, there is also a possibility of flashfloods in low-lying areas.
