THOUSANDS of books owned by revered academic Prof Wadan Narsey have found a valued, permanent location in the Fiji National University (FNU) Library.
According to the FNU, the economist gave the lifetime collection in a recent ceremony at its Nasinu campus, where they form a special collection available to students.
College of Business, Hospitality and Tourism Studies dean Doctor Mahendra Reddy, registrar Jone Dakuvula, librarian Dr Chaminda Jayasundara and deputy librarians Dr Tanveer Naqvi and Dr Don Anura received the 2173 books, dissertations, project reports, reprints, consultancy reports and periodicals, annual reports — including those of government and statutory bodies — newsletters and journals.
The statement said as well as copies of new books written by Prof Narsey, he gave multiple copies to the FNU book centre to sell and use the proceeds for their own book purchases.
The collection had a focus on economics and has been used by Prof Narsey for his teaching, research and consultancies since 1973. It covers different branches of economics including the history of economics and economics of education, but there are also volumes on governance, politics and social science, as well as fiction and science fiction.
FNU librarian Dr Jayasundara hopes the resources given by Prof Narsey will play a catalytic role in supporting the teaching, learning and research activities and in lifting the image of the FNU library.
