A UNIVERSITY student who stole $1295 while working for an organisation was given a second chance to improve her life by the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday.
Maureen Hereniko, 27, was sentenced to eight months suspended for 18 months by Magistrate Chaitanya Lakshman.
Ms Hereniko was charged with one count of dishonestly causing a loss.
In passing sentence, Mr Lakshman said he handed a suspended sentence to provide an opportunity to Ms Hereniko to move forward in her life.
Ms Hereniko's father, who was also present in court, cleared the stolen amount in full.
Mr Lakshman told Ms Hereniko to move forward in life and study to become someone better.
He told her to be more sensible and talk to her parents if something had gone wrong.
