HIGH Court judge Justice Prabaharan Kumararatnam has expressed concerns regarding the absence of former Post Fiji executive Mahendra Patel from court.

Mr Patel is facing charges of abuse of office. He is jointly charged with former Post Fiji acting managing director Dhirendra Pratap and former Post Fiji managing director Peni Mau who faces a count of extortion by public servant.

Mr Pratap and Mr Mau appeared in court on Thursday.

Justice Kumararatnam said with Mr Patel being away in Sydney for so long it was unfair on the other two accused persons.

Mr Patel's lawyer Hemendra Nagin said his client was still away in Sydney and required constant monitoring of his eye.

Mr Nagin said his client's eye condition was deteriorating.

Mr Patel was admitted at the Central Sydney Eye Surgeon.

The matter will be recalled on March 18.
