TWO people from Ba have been investigated for allegedly impersonating government officials.

Police spokesman Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri said a report was received on Thursday that two men of Fijian Indian descent, pretending to be government officials, were taking signatures from people in Ba.

"The complainant yesterday noticed the advertisement in the Fiji Sun advertised for Fiji Labour Party applying for registration as a political party and noticed her name published there," Insp Sokomuri said.

He said she felt suspicious and reported the matter to police because she claimed the two men did not inform her they were collecting signatures for political party registration.

When contacted yesterday on the alleged incident, the leader of the proposed Fiji Labour Party Mahendra Chaudhry said the report was news to him. "I haven't heard of anything like that yet," said Mr Chaudhry.

The 42-page public notice published in the Fiji Sun on Thursday was to inform the public of the proposed FLP's application for registration as a political party under Section 6 of the Political Parties Decree 2013.
