RURAL women should not feel disempowered when it comes to their health, said specialist gynaecologist Doctor Swaran Naidu from the Visesei Health Centre during an outreach clinic for rural women at Vaivai in Lautoka.
"Many rural women feel they are disempowered especially when it comes to their health. Many of them do not have much awareness of things like breast cancer or cervical cancer," said Dr Naidu.
"We are doing this rural outreach clinic to bring more awareness to women on cervical cancer and giving them advice on safe sex practices," she said.
About 50 women turned up to the clinic and education workshop yesterday to take advantage of the free clinics and medical advice from health educators.
Dr Naidu said the weekly European Union-funded program was inspired by the lack of knowledge rural women had regarding their health.
