Yachties pump $30m into Fiji

ABOUT $30million was spent by international yachties during their visit to Fiji last year.

The 2012 Fiji Marine Industry survey conducted by Port Denarau Marina highlighted the number of yachts and super yachts that entered the country last year.

In total, those entering the country in yachts spent $30,208,832.

Of this figure super yacht owners and passengers spent a total of $11,820,282 while ordinary yachts spent $25,986,332.

The survey noted that in 2012, additional revenue was generated through the Super Yacht Charter Decree which was paid to government through 12.5 per cent of the total charter fee as well as the application fee.

Government gained a total of $5,842,696 in revenue from its 12.5 per cent deduction.

Port Denarau business manager Cynthia Rasch said the number of yachts that entered the country increased compared to previous years.
