THE Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) has taken a healthy approach in its centennial celebration this year.

The union founded in 1913 has chosen 'Improving Our Quality of Life - Tackle NCD's" as its theme to celebrate 100 years of existence.

FRU chief executive officer Manasa Baravilala said sports could play a powerful role in reducing the non-communicable disease (NCD) risk factors, particularly through increasing levels of physical activity.

"As you know NCDs is a major issue in the country and we are collaborating with the Ministry of Health to bring this issue to the floor," Baravilala said during the centennial celebration launching.

The low key launching saw mostly the staff of FRU and few media personnel in attendance.

The commemorative billboard featuring 'flying winger' Joe Levula was unveiled at the Rugby House in Suva.

The FRU centennial celebration will start in April and will culminate with the Fiji versus Barbarians match in November in Twickenham, England.

A FRU Centennial Awards night will be also held in December.
