THE High Court in Suva yesterday sentenced a 57-year-old
former employee of Save the Children Fiji — who stole
more than $40,000 — to four years imprisonment.
Florence Peterson stole $47,191 between January 1 and
December 31, 2006 while employed as a finance
administration officer. Peterson was sentenced
by Justice Paul Madigan who said the accused was
responsible for the preparation and payments of wages
into the accounts of individual staff members.
An audit revealed cash cheques were written for
an amount more than the total of the individual
staff members' salaries and after the staff members's
accounts had been credited, Peterson would retain the cash surplus.
