THE Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) have extended its deadline for sporting federations wishing to be part of the Fiji Games.
The deadline closed last Friday, however, after a low interest from sporting bodies, FASANOC decided to give an extended time.
FASANOC received 27 application forms from the 37 affiliated sports.
Fiji Games Organising Chairman Reg Sanday said seventeen sports had not responded and they had been given until next Monday.
"FASANOC has written to sporting bodies to get them to confirm the number of athletes and officials as well as to submit their expenses as FASANOC will be providing a small subsidy to individual federations to cover the cost of equipment, medical and administrative costs," he said.
Sports such as athletics, archery, baseball, basketball, beach volleyball, billiards and snooker, bodybuilding, hockey, judo, karate, netball, powerlifting, surfing, table tennis, taekwondo, va'a, volleyball, weightlifting, women's gold and yachting have applied to be part of the competition.
Badminton, bowls (men's and women's), boxing, chess, cricket, football, rugby union and rugby league are some of the sporting bodies that have been given more time to apply.
The Fiji Games is scheduled for May 10-12.
