WELLINGTON - Hurricanes captain Conrad Smith has shaken off a head knock and will lead the side against the Reds.

Smith left the field eight minutes from the end of Saturday's 41-27 defeat by the Blues to undergo a concussion test and he failed to return.

The centre took a blow early in the match trying to stop winger George Moala and another late on trying to tackle Rene Ranger front-on.

He will fly to Brisbane with his teammates on Wednesday and is expected to take the field for Friday's match at Suncorp Stadium.

Prop Jeffrey Toomaga-Allen, who missed the Blues defeat with a concussion, is the only change to the Hurricanes's starting line-up.

Toomaga-Allen replaces Ben May at tighthead, who drops out of 22-strong squad.

There are two changes to the bench, with hooker Motu Matu'u and lock James Broadhurst making the trip across the ditch.

Hurricanes: Andre Taylor, Alapati Leiua, Conrad Smith (capt), Tim Bateman, Beauden Barrett, TJ Perenara, Brad Shields, Karl Lowe, Victor Vito, Jason Eaton, Jeremy Thrush, Jeffrey Toomaga-Allen, Dane Coles, Ben Franks.

Res: Motu Matu'u, Reggie Goodes, James Broadhurst, Faifili Levave, Chris Smylie, James Marshall, Reynold Lee-Lo.
