THE Jet Runners Club is hoping to draw a huge pool of athletes for their 5KM Fun Run in Nadi this Saturday.
Over 120 runners competed in the event last year and club president and race director Abinesh Kumar is confident the number will double this time around.
He said the theme for the run will be Run for your Life and the event would be used to advocate healthy living.
"We would like to welcome people from all walks of life to come and compete and enjoy the run with family members," Kumar said.
"Last year, we had over 120 runners and this year we are expecting 200 participants," he said.
"I would like to encourage interested people to come and take part in the event because it is aimed at helping people do physical activity."
The event is sponsored by Quality Tile Setters, a company owned by Kumar and he said they were donating medals for the event and other expenses that would occur during the event.
"The Fun Run is also supported by Muttu's South Indian Cuisine, Ministry of Health and McDonald's. Also the money collected from the entry fees will go towards the welfare of the three athletes from the club that are in the national side preparing for the Pacific Mini Games," he said.
Meanwhile, Avikash Lal will defend the title at the event and he will face stiff competition from national reps like Ravneel Singh and 3000m gold medallist Ashneel Nand of Tavua College.
