FORMER Fiji international Esala Masi helped Brisbane Ba hoist the 2013 Girmit Soccer tournament title at the Olympic Soccer Club in Yeronga, Brisbane in Australia over the weekend.

The four-day tournament organised by the Queensland Fiji Football Association (QFFA) had 11 teams from Australia, Fiji and New Zealand competing.

The Gurjit Singh-coached Suva represented Fiji and lost to the eventual winners 1-2 in the semis.

Former Fiji and Ba rep Masi scored the opening goal in the 14th minute against Brisbane Nadi in the final.

Brisbane Nadi led by former Fiji rep Raj Kumar fought hard and equalised from Soheel Khan's spot kick.

Xavier Lopez sealed the match for Brisbane Ba which also had the services of Lautoka reps Alvin Avinesh and Arvindra Naidu alongside veteran Valerio Nesema.

Ba goalkeeper Ilimeleki Niumatairu (Tukai) was awarded the goalkeeper of the tournament while the player of the tournament went to Nadi's James Hoyt.

"The Ba local guest strikers caused havoc with their speed on the Nadi defence time and again but were denied an opportunity to score on each occasion," Brisbane Ba official Vivesh Prasad said.

"The local Brisbane Ba boys jelled well with guest players to entertain the soccer loving public with their crisp one-touch passes."

Brisbane Ba, which also had services of former Fiji, Lautoka and Ba rep Vishwa Nair as one of their technical advisers, collected AUS$6000 ($F11,000) and the Girmit Trophy after the win.

"It was one of the greatest tournaments organised by QFFA to date with all players appreciating the ground condition which was in immaculate condition together with the quality of the food and beverages at the ground, the pre grand final entertainment, Indian stalls and entertainment for kids," Prasad added.
