Families without water

ABOUT 50 families living along the Saweni-Viseisei Back Rd have been without water for the past few days.

Residents lodged several complaints to the Water Authority of Fiji but have yet to receive a response.

Resident Monita Nair said the water supply to their home stopped last Friday.

"We thought that it would come back on after a few hours but when Sunday came around, we still did not have any water supply," she said. "I've made several calls to the Water Authority office in Lautoka and they told us because of the heavy rain last week one of their pipes got washed away.

"They told us that they would send a water truck but it never came."

Fellow resident Leena Chand said after lodging her complaint on Monday, she was told the damaged pipe was repaired.

"They told us that it would take several hours for the water pressure to build up for the reservoir to be able to supply our homes with water again," she said.

"But since then, we still don't have any water. They haven't been carting water to our homes. I was told that Lautoka was a big area to supply water to and that they needed us to be patient while the water truck delivered water to affected areas." The authority confirmed receiving complaints from Ms Nair.
