Take advantage of ratepayers amnesty

WITH less than two days left before a ratepayers amnesty period comes to a close, the Lautoka City Council is once again calling on residents to take advantage of the extension.

As a result of Tropical Cyclone Evan hitting the Sugar City late last year, the council made an application to the Ministry of Local Government for an extension for residents to pay off their city rates.

LCC special administrator Praveen Bala said the result was an amnesty period lasting until March 1.

He said while people had been coming forward to pay off arrears, there was some who were unable to pay off their arrears because of financial difficulties.

"There are many who are facing financial difficulties and for these people, the council is urging them to come to the council office and speak with rate collection officers."
