SENIWI is the new champion in the Cuvu Volleyball competition.

This was after they beat Pixie Katz 3-2 in the men's challenge at the Kalevu grounds over the weekend.

Led by rugby players Emioni Rokomanu and Meli Kaisau, Seniwi took control of the game from the opening set.

The defending champions banked on their experience to weave their way back into the game in the second set.

Former beach volleyball rep Sepesa Leweniqila teamed up with Cuvu seasonal players Jason Tutani, Timoci Nakukaimasa debutant Eruweli Tavutu in a bid to contain the tough challenge from Seniwi.

Rokomanu and Kaisau were instrumental for the challengers.

Cuvu volleyball official Jella Botei said the challenge was a thriller.

"Tavutu showed great basic volleyball skills during the challenge but it was not enough for his team losing a much anticipated and exciting challenge to Seniwi," Botei said.

In the women's division, Pixie Katz defeated Davetalevu by three sets. Laced with current Vucu reps in Liana Nadredre, Adi Tabaiwalu, Adi Ema, Torika Vaka and Sigatoka schoolteacher Kimberly, the challengers were too hot to handle.

Botei said they were looking forward to the Vanua Challenge.

"Cuvu women's volleyball team are also preparing to the Vanua Challenge next month also with the help of coach Sepesa Leweniqila," Botei said.
