FIVE men have been arrested by the police on allegations of aggravated robbery in Suva on Sunday morning.

This was confirmed yesterday by police spokesman Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri who said the men had stolen items from two taxis and assaulted a taxidriver.

"The five were alleged to have robbed two taxis after hiring them from Suva and assaulting the driver in Edenville, Toorak," he said.

"Four of the men threatened a taxidriver with a pen knife before robbing him of a taxi meter and $80 cash."

Separately, three other men are also in police custody after also robbing a taxidriver in the Eight Miles area in Nasinu on Sunday morning.

The 22-year-old taxidriver was robbed of $350 cash, the police report confirmed.

"Police are again appealing to members of the community to respect taxidrivers as they are providing a service to the community," Insp Sokomuri said.

All the suspects are in custody at the Totogo Police Station.
