NINE-year-old Lucieann Tupua was given a reason to smile after winning $500 as part of Westpac Bank's new branch opening promotions.

The bank's head of marketing Nirmala Nambiar said the promotion had been running since Westpac launched its new branch in Lautoka last month.

"Since the opening of this branch on January 24, we have been running an account opening campaign," she said.

"The first week, we had two draws, and from then we have been having weekly draws till last Friday. They won $100 to their account. This was an initiative to allow people to come and open up accounts with us," Ms Nambiar said, adding that because of the promotions, business at the new branch was good.

"People have listened to the advertisements we put out for a new branch, they have done well. Looking at the number of new accounts, it is really good," she said.

St Thomas Primary School student Lucieann was among those who opened a new bank account with Westpac.

"It was a birthday present from my parents. I feel like a big girl and I will save this money for my education," she said.

Her mother Mareta Mario said the announcement was unexpected. "This is her first account and I feel really happy for her."
