Court rejects man's bail application

Tuesday, February 26, 2013

A 30-YEAR-OLD serving prisoner charged with a count of arson has been further remanded by the High Court in Labasa.

Ravinesh Deo appeared before Judge Justice Daniel Goundar yesterday.

Deo allegedly attempted to set fire to the Westpac Bank building in Labasa Town in December last year.

In his bail application Deo had requested the court if he could be granted bail on the grounds that he was looking after his elderly mother and their sugar cane farm since his father passed away.

However, Justice Goundar refused bail on the grounds that the charge was very serious. Deo's trial proper is expected to commence next month.
