System for all land transport services

FIJI Bus Operators Association vice president Pramod Chand has called on the authorities to ensure the e-ticketing system is also implemented on other land transport services.

Mr Chand said the system should also be implemented in taxis, carriers and rural service licence vehicles for rural operators to create a level playing field for all transport service providers. LTA spokesman Alfred Wiliame said the plea was also part of their future outlook. "Part of our future outlook is to implement the e-ticketing on mobile phones so that transactions can be carried out through mobile phones."

Foneology director James Trusler said this could be done through Vodafone-Inkk through the m-paisa program. "Commuters can top up cards of their friends and families despite their locations which is a plus for rural community members."
