THE Super Eight format for the super premier division was approved by the delegates during the Fiji Football Association extraordinary congress in Nadi yesterday.
At the ordinary congress in Ba last October the delegates had voted for the 10 team format.
During the NFL council meeting the change in the format was unanimously agreed upon.
Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel said the Super Eight format had been passed for the 2013/2014 season.
He said this would start in September.
Meanwhile, The Fiji FA has given the green light for the staging of the Pacific Cup in New Zealand later this year.
The semi-finalists of the Battle of the Giants will earn a spot in the tournament.
The inaugural tournament was organised by the New Zealand Fiji Football Association Incorporated last year. The tournament was won by the Kamal Swamy coached Nadi side.
