UPSKILLING and training staff is an investment Outrigger on the Lagoon Fiji will focus on as it anticipates an even better business year.

While last year was dubbed a record year for the resort, general manager Peter Hopgood said the development of human resources was integral.

"We will continue to be involved in our local community and all going well we hope to recruit approximately another 20 to 30 more staff in 2013," said Mr Hopgood whose work permit for another three years had been approved by government recently.

"I feel truly blessed to have been given the opportunity to lead this talented team at Outrigger on the Lagoon.

"I feel content knowing my team has delivered on these commitments.

"One thing that I am proud of last year was the enormous improvement in the quality of food they served to the guests.

"We pride ourselves on providing the ultimate holiday experience. We have outstanding staff members, an unbelievable spa, caring meimei nannies, talented talai butlers and now we have the best cuisine you will find anywhere in the South Pacific."

Meanwhile, the resort's "fine dine" Ivi Restaurant Sous chef Priya Darshani was voted the number one chef in Fiji at the Moffat Salon Culinaire awards last year, an achievement Mr Hopgood said they were proud of.
