WINNING the Fittest Policeman of the Year award for senior officers during the Fiji Police Force Excellence Awards was an accomplishment for 52-year-old Acting Superintendent of Police Kelepi Gucake.

ASP camp commandant Gucake was enlisted in 2009 and holds the post of camp commandant at Nasova Police Station.

ASP Gucake was awarded the fittest policeman of the year after he clocked 13.22 minutes during the force physical initial test and later clocked 13.05 during his final test.

He said it was through hard work and determination.

"My message to the younger officers here is that they need to excel in whatever they do, whether it is through physical training or skills," ASP Gucake said.

"They need to make a lot of sacrifices in order to achieve such goals and nothing is impossible if they have the will and the determination," he said.

ASP Gucake said he made a lot of sacrifices in order to win and age was not a barrier for him.

"My winning the award should be a challenge to all the police officers because we can still stay fit regardless of age," he said.

"We should always have a positive lifestyle so that we can be positive about issues that may arise."
