WARDENS Gold looked in golden form as it gears up for the Nawaka 7s in Nadi next weekend.
After winning the MH Red Rock 7s final at Albert Park yesterday, they have been tagged as one of the favourites for next weekend's showdown at Prince Charles Park.
Laced with national reps Ilai Tinai, Joji Ragamate and Niko Verekauta, Wardens beat Army 24-12 in the cup final, pocketing $2000.
Surprisingly, the MH Red Rock under-19 side qualified for the Cup semi-finals. The fourth-ranked Red Rock team lost 17-5 to an experienced Army side which had the likes of Dale Tonawai, Leone Nakarawa, Waqabaca Kotobalavu and Emosi Mulevoro.
Red Rock One settled for the plate.
Tonawai and his troops cruised past Nasolo Young Boys in the quarter-finals while Wardens Gold beat Red Rock Two.
Red Rock coach Lote Rasiga said he was anticipating an exciting Nawaka 7s tournament.
"We are happy with that we had a good build up to the Nawaka 7s. All the teams were in top form and we are expecting the Nawaka 7s to be a thriller," he said.
"Most of these teams will be playing again next week and it will be a very good competition out there," Rasiga added.
The Fiji Bitter-sponsored Nawaka 7s kicks off on March 1.
