Minister for Health Doctor Neil Sharma has confirmed that the CWM Hospital's outsourced mortuary can now accommodate up to 50 bodies.
The outsourcing contract was awarded to the Suva Funeral Directors Limited for two years subject to renewal based on performance.
"The mortuary is a state of art and the outsourcing is part of the ministry's plan to be able to handle disasters," Dr Sharma said.
"This outsourcing has helped because it stops or does not clog up the system and it is working quite effectively.
"We would also be hoping to extend this service in the next six months to Lautoka and Labasa."
