FIJI-born Mohammed Shuiab Khan has become the first Fijian to be named in the New Zealand national soccer side.

Khan is part of the 17 member New Zealand under-19 team that will tour United Kingdom and Ireland and play international matches in April and May of this year.

Khan, who attends Sacred Heart College, has been part of the Waitakere U19 Academy and played an instrumental role for Waitakere in the Pacific Cup last year.

According to apna990online.com Khan "has been an ardent soccer player since an early age.

"During his early stages, it was his disciplined and skillful display of soccer when he first joined the Fencibles AFC."

The report also said Shuiab is the eldest son of Mohammed Sabir Khan, who is a known community and sports supporter in the Indian community in New Zealand.

"As a parent, Mohammed Khan, has been an instrumental and responsible figure to lend the much needed support in ensuring a thriving sports advancement for his son."

Shuiab will represent the NZ U19 side against Scotland, Northern Ireland, Ireland, Wales and England.
