Bus runs over girl

A UNIVERSITY student came close to losing her life yesterday morning after she jumped off a moving bus.

The girl, believed to be in her late 20s, tried to jump off the bus in Raiwaqa through the door to get off.

A witness at the scene who preferred anonymity said the girl jumped off the bus because it was not on the correct route and could not stop at a nearby bus stop.

The witness said when she jumped off, she fell and the bus ran over her left leg.

"Her skin was peeled off and bones exposed as a result of the bus running over her," the witness said.

The witness added the girl also sustained serious injuries to her forehead after hitting the footpath beside the road.

She was taken to the Raiwaqa Health Centre by bystanders.

While no details were revealed on the girl's condition, police spokesman Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri confirmed the incident.

He said they were investigating the incident.
