THE North West Billiards and Snooker Association will host a doubles snooker championship at the Lautoka Club in April.

The NWBSA is reviving the tournament after a lapse of three years.

Last year a charity doubles tournament was played at the Lautoka Club.

Pritesh Khatri and Ravi Narayan won the event defeating Rimal Narayan and Pita Tevita in the final.

NWBSA president Suresh Chauhan said the doubles tournament would generate a lot of interest.

He said they would also be holding billiard tournaments as well.

"We will not only concentrate on singles snooker," Chauhan said.

"There will be a pool tournament. By holding the pool tournament we will be able to select players who could do well in snooker.

"We will train them. Right now we have a couple of young players like Vineet Kumar who we are working on. He is a Natabua High School student who has potential to make it big in the sport."

"We are looking for sponsors to start the North West League.

"The southern division has already started their league competition," Chauhan said.

"For us in the West logistics is a major problem.

"So we will have to work out ways to see how players from Sigatoka, Nadi, Lautoka, Ba and Tavua feature in a weekly competition."

The NWBSA doubles tournament will be played from April 13-14.
