THE Fiji Rugby Union has a new official footwear supplier.
Yesterday, FRU announced a four-year partnership with global sports brand Mizuno for boots and running shoes.
FRU chief executive Manasa Baravilala said many players around the world had the Mizuno boot as their footwear of choice on the playing field.
He said it was evident at the last Rugby World Cup where a majority of the top international players opted for the brand.
"So we're thrilled they're coming on board for the next four seasons as we build up to the 7s Rugby World Cup in June, the 2015 Rugby World and of course the 2016 Rio Olympics," Baravilala said.
He said boots from their past supplier did not fit well on Fijian players as they tend to have wider feet and the Mizuno brand has proven to be a comfortable brand for the players as their feet fit in well in the boots and running shoes.
"Prior to Mizuno coming on board, we've been struggling with quality and correct sizing particularly as Fijian feet tend to be very broad."
Mizuno representative based in New Zealand, James O'Rourke believes they have signed into one of world rugby's most thrilling brands.
"There's no doubt Fiji Rugby is one of rugby's iconic brands," he said.
"It conjures up excitement and thrilling, expansive, running rugby - the way the game should be played; and we at Mizuno are delighted to be associated with this excitement we know as Fiji rugby."
