Hundreds stranded

Maciu Malo
Friday, February 22, 2013

HUNDREDS were stranded for about an hour as the Lubulubu bridge in Tavua went underwater yesterday.

Schoolchildren in drenched uniforms were forced to wait for waters to recede before being transported by a tractor over the flooded bridge.

Resident Praveen Nand said the heavy rain yesterday resulted in the overflow of floodwaters over the bridge affecting the movement of people and vehicles.

He said many low-lying areas in the area were also covered with water before floodwaters receded again in the afternoon.

Mr Nand said many cane farms were also flooded. He said other parts of Ba and Tavua were also underwater.
