THE Digicel Fiji Sevens team may have missed the chance of creating history of winning the first ever million dollar 7s tournament.
This after the Grand Prix Rugby 7s Championship which was supposed to be played from July 12 to 14 has reportedly being cancelled
The event, which has been a long time in the making, was supposed to be held at the home of the Los Angeles Galaxy and Fiji was one of the first nations invited to participate.
Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, England, France, Georgia, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Japan, Kenya, Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, Portugal, Russia, Samoa, Scotland, South Africa, Spain, Tonga, USA, Wales and Romania were the other nations confirmed to play.
"That is the organisers decision, we just have to abide by it, but apart from the huge prize money, this would have been a wonderful development for 7s within the United States," national 7s head coach Alifereti Dere told fru.com.
According to the Home Depot Centre's website, tickets have been available for purchase online for weeks and refunds are available via the point of purchase.
The three-day event would have seen the winner walk away with the prizemoney of $US1million ($F1.7m).
