FICAC probes claims

THE Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption has confirmed launching an investigation in relation to allegations levelled against a former political party for collecting members' signatures illegally.

This has been confirmed by FICAC spokeswoman Cegu Babana who said the claims were made by members of the public in Ba.

"Our officers are investigating and more details will be released after the completion of the investigation," Ms Babana said.

It's alleged certain people acting as government election officials collected signatures for the registration of their proposed political party.

Police chief of operations Assistant Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu also confirmed they were investigating the allegations..

He said the investigation was in its initial stages and details could not be released.
