LAUTOKA sugar canegrowers have been reassured the cane quality payment system that will be introduced this season will prove beneficial to them.

The response to farmers' concerns about the introduction of the cane quality payment system this season was made to industry stakeholders conducting grower consultations around the Western Division.

Acting Sugar Cane Growers Council CEO Sundresh Chetty informed the farmers that the payment system would be run parallel with the current system of being paid on tonnage to show farmers how the system would be more lucrative.

"They have informed us that even though they are receptive, they need to see the system at work to be fully convinced," Mr Chetty said.

"As part of our awareness and education, we will run the two systems in parallel and the farmers' statements will show how much they are getting paid based on tonnage as opposed to what they would have been paid under the cane quality payment system."
