Saints eager to maintain winning record

DEFENDING champions Saints are eager to maintain their clean record in round two of the Suva/Laucala Basketball League tonight.

Saints face a tough battle with Idaman in their A-grade duel at 7pm at the Vodafone Arena.

Laced with national reps like Mataiasi Koyamainavure, Jese and Tui Sikivou, Saints are anticipating a brutal encounter against their rivals.

Suva/Laucala Basketball League official Leonard Whippy said Idaman would be on fire following their round one loss to Saints.

"The feature game tomorrow (tonight) will be between Saints and Idaman," he said.

"Idaman seem to be improving as they play more games. We expect Idaman to be more determined against Saints compared to when they first met at the beginning of the season."

He said they were happy with the stiff competition in each of the three grades.

The Pacific Harbour-based Outcydaz are the only unbeaten team after round three of competition.

"We are happy with the way things are going so far. Games are more evenly contested. The results are a lot closer which means that teams are forced to play more consistent basketball throughout the duration of the game."

Newcomers Warriors have two wins from three games. The former Raiwaqa giant suffered their only loss to Saints last week.

Playing with the services of national reps like Sakuisa Rokodi and Isikeli Mara and assisted by Fiji under-19 reps Josh Motufaga and Ulaiasi Koroi, the Warriors failed to contain the strong Saints side in the even contest.

Jats will play New Era Two in the opening game at 5.30 today.
