THE Fiji National Rugby League is focused on developing the skills of players at secondary school level.
With the Fiji Secondary School Rugby League competition kicking-off this weekend, the parent body is working closely with schools on training.
FNRL general manager Tomi Finau said the new schools should not be underestimated during the competition.
"We have got some new schools joining this year so we are expecting a lot of new talents to be seen this year," he said.
"Our main focus is to help develop the skills of players. Our development officers are going to schools teaching them on the basic skills of the game."
This weekend, Ratu Kadavulevu School Eels under-19 faces Tailevu North in the feature match while Lomary Secondary School takes on heavyweight Suva Grammar Titans.
Defending champions Nasinu Secondary School will feature next week. And the western conference kicks off in Lautoka on March 2.
"The main game is between RKS and Tailevu North. We are expecting a good game from this match and also the other U19 matches," Finau said.
He said most schools would join the competition next week.
Draws: U15 Nasinu - SGS; U18 Nabua - Lomaivuna; U19 RKS - Taliveu; U19 SGS - Lomary; U19 Lelean - Dudley; U19 Navuso Lomaivuna
