NEWCOMERS impressed during the season opening National Triples Championship at the Suva Bowling Club yesterday.

Nadi-based Munesh Kumar's team which has the services of Lal Chand Prasad (Bobby) and Rajnesh Prasad defeated Keegan Jaduram's team from Labasa 10-8 in the final.

Jaduram's team of Kushal and Sailesh Prasad overcame the star-studded Abdul Kalim's side 12-11 in the extra end playoff.

Kumar's side faced Waisea Senibeci's troops in the other semis and won 14-6.

Fiji Bowling Association official Kalim hailed the newcomers for the outstanding performance adding the tournament was a good start to the season.

"The competition was tough as depicted by the close score line and the new players did really well to overcome their experienced opponents," the national rep said.

"Newcomers winning tournaments is a good sign for the sport and shows the development work done by the national body is successful."

Kumar's team took home the $450 prize money and the Muni Chand Trophy while Jaduram's side settled for $350.
