FORMER national rep Mesulame Mathewsella guided Saffron to victory over Outcast Black in the Waiyavi Volleyball Association club competition at the Natabua High School courts yesterday.
Saffron defeated Outcast Black 2-1.
The Saffron team also included Hanisoko Moeava, Mosese Yalimaiwai and Alipate Tukoso.
A total of 11 matches were played before heavy rain washed out the competition.
WVA president Kalivati Suli said the enthusiasm was high among the players.
He said they would turn their focus on preparations for the Vanua Challenge from tomorrow.
"The club games have resumed from last year," Suli said.
"We are trying to finish off the competition. The focus is also on the Vanua Challenge. The fitness level of the players is on par.
"The coaches have been working on the combinations. From Monday the squad training will resume. We will be fielding two men's teams and one women's team in the Vanua Challenge.
"The aim is to do the best in the tournament in Suva. The interest in the sport is high and we have 17 teams."
The Vanua Challenge will be held from March 1-2.
