THE Ministry of Health is still formulating a wellness concept to foster healthy living among the Fijian people.

Speaking during his recent tour in the north, Minister for Health Doctor Neil Sharma said the concept would also have an indicator to measure the success of the program.

Also speaking on the development of such a concept, divisional medical officer north Doctor Pablo Romakin said such a concept was aimed at empowering members of the public to take ownership of their lifestyle.

"The concept will include the establishment of major projects aimed at improving lifestyles and setting health standards as guidelines for healthy living," said Dr Romakin.

"Indicators for the success of this program would be assessed through the number of cases that we receive in our hospitals or health centres relating to NCD.

"Therefore in a bid to reduce NCD cases we will be taking wellness programs to the ground, in the community, schools and religious institutions."

Dr Romakin said this was something good as it worked out for the good of the community and the wellness of people around the country.

"Awareness programs will be aimed at empowering the community as knowledge is power.

"The more the knowledge the public gains on how to counter NCD's the better it is for them," he said.
