MAINTENANCE work at all four sugar mills in the country have begun in anticipation of the 2013 crushing season.

While crushing dates have yet to be decided, Fiji Sugar Corporation executive chairman Abdul Khan said rehabilitation work was on schedule and progressing well.

"Although we started in late January, the momentum picked up at the beginning of February," he said.

Mr Khan also revealed that diversification programs were progressing well with the cogeneration plant at Rarawai on track.

In terms of manpower, he said there were no immediate plans to downsize the work force.
