FORMER Yat Sen Secondary School student Milika Tuivanuavou has been named National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) national track and field athlete of the week after winning three events at the APU Indoor Qualifier last Saturday.

A statement from Athletics Fiji said Tuivanuavou set a new school record in the triple jump (41' 5") and broke her own national record for her homeland, Fiji, while also winning the shot put and long jump to start her senior season in impressive fashion.

"She also finished third in the 60 metres and reached the NCAA Division II qualifying marks in both the triple and long jump," said the statement.

"Tuivanuavou was last year's NAIA national champion in the triple jump and shot put and went on to be named Capital One's Academic All-American Athlete of the Year," it said.

Her school, Fresno Pacific, is currently in the second year of a three-year transition to NCAA Division II.

During the transition years, FPU is competing nationally in the NCCAA and using the NCAA Division II marks as qualifying standards.
