NATIONAL netball rep Seruwaia Vonolagi was served with a lifetime restraining order by the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday not to assault or inflict any injury on her partner Penaia Raiyalo.

In passing sentence, Magistrate Yohan Liyanage said Mr Rayalo's medical report showed that he sustained injuries to his face, including cuts on his top left eyebrow and multiple minor cuts on his body inflicted by Vonolagi.

Magistrate Liyanage said the accused allegedly assaulted the 47-year-old man around 4am on November 7, last year, while she was under the influence of liquor.

He said Vonolagi and the complainant, a lecturer at the Fiji National University (FNU), had been in a relationship for more than two years.

The mother of four smashed an empty chilli sauce bottle on Mr Rayalo's face before punching him. In court, Vonolagi was remorseful saying her relationship with her partner had improved and they were now living together under the same roof.

She also sought forgiveness from the court and promised not to reoffend.

However, Magistrate Liyanage imposed a six- month prison term on Vonolagi suspended for two years.

Vonolagi was given 28 days to appeal against her sentence.
