THE Namosau horseracing course is being upgraded so it can host bigger and better events in the future.
The popular racecourse in Ba where once every three weeks racing enthusiasts converge to cheer on their favourite horses will spot a more professional look soon.
Ba Town Council chief executive officer Dip Narayan said plans were in place to replicate the Melbourne Cup atmosphere at the Namosau horseracing track.
"We want to have betting booths, restaurants, beer parlours and other facilities in the future," Narayan said.
"The turnout and the interest have been really encouraging so far."
Narayan also said plans were afoot to build other sporting facilities at Namosau.
"These are all long-term plans which we have started working on already."
Meanwhile, more than 50 people were present at last Saturday's race, which featured 10 categories and sponsored by Ba businessman Mahendra Bilimoria.
Bilimoria was impressed with the turnout and organisation of the day-long race.
The next race will be on March 3.
