TOVOLEA and Ratu Filise shared the $3000 prizemoney at the Deborah's Fashion Kuata 7s tournament held last Saturday at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.

The two made it through to the cup final but did not play as nightfall prevented the match to take place.

Tournament organiser Sitiveni Tikoirewa said the major setback was teams arriving on game day with their registration fees which resulted in the tournament being delayed by 45 minutes.

However, he added, this did not deter them from running the tournament successfully

"The main purpose of hosting the tournament was to try and raise some much-needed funds to support Kuata Exiles rugby team," Tikoirewa said.

"It was also more of a learning experience for us as organisers as we would like to host another 7s tournament later this year which will be named the Maleli Kunavore Memorial 7s tournament.

"We hope to be able to find a sponsor to assist us host that tournament and we hope to hold the Maleli Kunavore Memorial 7s tournament annually."

Tikoirewa thanked Wise Kurikoro of Deborah's Fashion, Abbas Ali of Fantasy, Pratisha of Shop 2 Save Supermarket, Sigatoka, the Nadroga Rugby Referees Association, medics team and the Fiji Sports Council for assisting them in the organisation of the Kuata 7s tournament.

Top teams that participated in the tournament included MH Red Rock, Ratu Filise and Army Red.

Teams such as Nasereilagi travelled all the way from Ra and New Dawn Duiyasana from Lautoka to be part of the day-long event.

Hosts Kuata rugby which had the services of former Digicel Fiji 7s rep Sailosi Rabonaqica was bundled out in pool play.
