Rasiga grooms U19 players

RENOWNED local coach Lote Rasiga has started working on preparing the next generation of Red Rock players.

Rasiga, a national team selector, has won many local sevens tournaments as coach of the Qauia-based side. He is now working with under-19 players who could become full-time players of the MH-sponsored team.

"Many of our senior players might leave after a season or two or some could even be selected in the national side," Rasiga said.

"So we need to have players ready to replace them and we have started working with under-19 players," he said.

"This is the first time we are doing this and we hope to have our under-19 team compete in local tournaments."

Last weekend, the MH Red Rock under-19 side won the U19 competition of the Caubati Mission 7s tournament.

"That was the first tournament this team played and they did well but there is room for improvement.

"We want this team to compete in more tournaments and if tournaments don't have under-19 competition then this team will compete as Red Rock III in the senior grade.

"As they mature as a team, they will progress to team II and then to the main team and the cycle will continue."
