Parallel payment system

Felix Chaudhary
Wednesday, February 13, 2013

THE Fiji Sugar Corporation will conduct a parallel cane payment system — using the old payment by weight while phasing in the new cane quality payment system — for the 2013 season.

This was revealed by acting chief executive officer at the Sugar Cane Growers Council Sundresh Chetty yesterday.

"We believe that this will be the best way to raise awareness and at the same time educate cane growers about the benefits of being paid based on cane quality.

"We will give them a comparison on payment on tonnage versus payment on quality," he said.

"This is certainly a move in the right direction."

Plans to introduce the system in 2012 were deferred due to the floods in January and April.
